The Arizona legislature is busy retaliating against Democratic women who swept Joe Biden and Mark Kelly into power by passing nasty anti-abortion “trigger laws.”
These proposed laws would not only ban abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected, like the laws that have proliferated since Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation in September 2018, which remade the Supreme Court into a Conservative institution.
The newest law, SB 1457, sponsored by QAnon crackpot, Senator Wendy Rogers (R-Flagstaff), would make abortion a Class 3 felony, carrying a prison term of 31/2 years for physicians, nurses, and their clerical staff, if the Supreme Court were to strike down Roe v. Wade.
Rogers’ law is designed to wind its way up to the High Court.
She and her ilk are the same people who believe mask mandates usurp their every freedom.
“We know that we are sacrificing innocent life less we save innocent children when the heartbeat is heard,” Rogers said. “There is no conscionable reason for us to continue the sacrifice of human life.”
Genetically Abnormal Fetuses
The state House this week also approved HB2140, making it a felony for physicians to perform abortions on genetically deformed fetuses.
Asking a woman to bear a child with severe fetal abnormalities is legally dubious and punitive to the core.
Many of these babies are desperately wanted by parents, who go through enough hell after finding out their offspring won’t live normal lives.
Shouldn’t the parents be the ones to decide whether to end their pregnancies and not the QAnon anti-abortionists?
Apparently not, as the 31-39 party-line vote on the bill was arrived at after Representative Regina Cobb (R-Kingman) added a clause that would legalize such abortions if the genetic abnormalities were “incompatible with life.”
“It’s not to encompass a child that is going to be Down’s Syndrome [baby] that’s going to live to 45 years old,” Cobb said.
