AZGOP Governor Candidates Bring the Crazy in LD15 Forum

I normally would not give any Republican candidates straight airtime here on BlogForArizona, except, of course, to criticize them. But I watched in amazed fascination and shock the AZ Republican Party’s LD 15 Governors Candidate Forum,  featuring Matt Salmon, Steve Gaynor, and Trump’s endorsed candidate Kari Lake. Holy shit did they bring the crazy.

That is why I am simply presenting the whole and unedited video footage of this event piped straight from Rumble. I can’t possibly edit out any of this without simply lessening the amount of utter batshit crazy coming from the people who want to lead our state.  They seemed to feed off each other and the crowds’ reactions to their craziest statements, promises, threats, and belligerence. It became a contest to see who can say the absolutely most radical, stupid, and fantastical things possible.

Before you expose yourself to the firehose of conspiracy, insurrection, and health quackery, you should have an idea of what you will be seeing:

Specifically, all the candidates advocated:

  • further voter suppression and extra-legal meddling in our elections process, misusing the AZ National Guard to enforce immigration restrictions (thereby forcing the members of the Guard to potentially violate their oaths to uphold the U.S. Constitution, incidentally…),
  • straight-up state nullification of Federal laws (which we’ve had some history with… we called the Civil War),
  • openly defying federal law and regulations and enjoining Arizona officials from enforcing federal law,
  • doing absolutely nothing to protect public health in the face of infectious disease threats (laughably criticizing #DoNothingDucey for doing too much!),
  • promoting the utter fantasy of making Arizona somehow economically self-sufficient (even, laughably, in agriculture!),
  • refusing federal money that would benefit Arizona citizens,
  • detaining and jailing refugees and immigrants for violations of Arizona law at Arizona taxpayer expense and then demanding the federal government recompense that madness…

And this list is not AT ALL exhaustive. I’m sure you might spot even further crazy that I missed in this little teaser. Please leave a comment with the most outrageous things you noticed.

Keep in mind, this the majority of the credible field of candidates. I have very little doubt that Kimberly Yee would be right there with these loons every step of the way. Karrin Taylor Robinson strikes me as the most reasonable of the group, but whether she could withstand the pressure to go full wingnut in this setting is open to debate: perhaps that’s why she did not attend?

In any case, these are the sorts of positions that the likely AZGOP nominee for Governor will have taken. Let’s remember and hold them to account for their utter inanity when we get to the General election, when they all try to pivot away from this nonsense and appear a bit more rational for the reality-based electorate of Arizona.

Part One:

Part Two:

I know that was painful for most of you to watch. My wife and my dog were rather concerned at all the shouting I did at the screen when I viewed it. Consider it early opposition research and keep your notes for the General Election fight to come.

I refused to monetize any views of Rumble content, but if you are appreciate of this being brought to your attention…:

  1. Very illuminating forum with 3 of the five? Republican Gubernatorial candidates for 2022. Matt Salmon is clearly the one with the most political experience, Gaynor only ran for Sec. of State in 2018 and lost, and Lake is a political newcomer, but maybe a “populist” candidate. Wonder why State Treasurer Kimberly Yee was absent. Interesting also that they all assumed Sec. of State Katie Hobbs would be the Dem nominee for Governor.
