Back from vacation: a few bits and (amusing to me) pieces

by David Safier

My wanderings, with erratic and occasional postings, are over for awhile. I promise to return to seriousness soon — maybe even today.

But first I need to unburden myself of a few amusing tidbits.

Here's the first: The best — as in most enjoyable — headline I've seen recently:

Boys Trail Girls in Reading; Can Fart Jokes Help?

As Homer Simpson might say, It's funny because it's true (and it's funny on so many levels).

It's an AP story by the way, and this is the most used headline nationwide. As far as I can tell, the story didn''t run in the Star, so until I'm told otherwise, I'm calling this a Tucson Exclusive.

The gist of the article is, girls are more willing to read school-approved text, while boys yawn and turn away. So, the way to close the reading gap may be to open the bodily functions gate.

Creative, or just crude? You be the judge.

More bits and pieces tomorrow. We now resume our regular blogging
