Trainer Victoria Suchanek will lead a hands-on self-defense session just for our group. Learn how to break free from an arm grab or a hold from behind—skills for protests and real-life threats (not for use against law enforcement). Techniques are adaptive for all ages, sizes, abilities, and mobility levels, including those using canes or wheelchairs. Open to everyone: seniors, students, parents, and more.

Training by expert Victoria Suchanek, who is 5-foot-3 and weighs 125 pounds, but can escape a guy twice her size.

What is Krav Maga/Self-Defense?

Krav Maga translates to “contact-combat” (close-quarters combat). It is a military self-defense and fighting system developed for the Israel Defense Forces and is also utilized by police and military worldwide. Krav Maga takes the most simple and practical techniques of other fighting styles (including Boxing, Wrestling, Japanese and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Taekwondo, Karate, Muay Thai, and modern Mixed Martial Arts training) and makes them rapidly teachable to military conscripts.

Krav Maga has a philosophy that emphasizes simultaneous defensive and offensive maneuvers. It is known for its focus on real-world situations and its extreme efficiency.

It was derived from the street-fighting experience of Hungarian-Israeli martial artist Imi Lichtenfeld, who utilized his training as a boxer and wrestler to defend the Jewish quarter against fascist groups in Czechoslovakia in the mid-to-late 1930s. In the late 1940s, following his migration to Israel, he began providing lessons on combat training to what would become the IDF.

What can I expect in class?

Each class is designed to give you fast and functional self-defense skills and knowledge. This includes stand-up tactics, ground self-defense, and third-party protection.

Come to learn how to handle modern-day, real-world attacks.

  • Choke holds
  • Punch and kick defenses
  • Active shooter scenarios
  • Multiple attackers
  • Using your environment to your advantage
  • Wrist grabs
  • Restraining holds
  • Hair pulls
  • And much more

Although we take our training very seriously, this is a non-intimidating class that invites you to have fun while training with other members who are dedicated to supporting each other’s mental and physical growth.
