Movie buffs will remember the closing scene of the 1942 classic Casablanca where Rick, played by Humphrey Bogart, is walking off with Louis, portrayed by Claude Rains, saying “Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.”
Fast forward close to 80 years later and you see this scene at the Nation’s Capitol.
Bernie says he met one on one with Manchin today.
“We talked and we plan to continue to talk,” he told reporters
Manchin then walked over and they both posed for a picture pic.twitter.com/WzwP72HQ7J

Both Senators Bernie Sanders and Joe Manchin, after trading critiques of each other at rivaling press gatherings and op-eds, emerged after the first of hopefully several one on one discussions to bridge the differences over the Biden/Harris Build Back Better Plan.
Senator Manchin also met one on one with House Progressive Caucus leader Pramila Jaypal.
In a video taken by Frank Thorp on Twitter, both Senators are seen telling reporters “we’re talking.”

Senator Sanders also said, “we’re going to make some progress.”
Senator Manchin, as he entered his vehicle, relayed “never give up Bernie.”
Maybe, this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Hopefully, this is a sign that a final deal is not far away and the American People will be able to cheer the passage of two major pieces of legislation that will upgrade and modernize the nation’s infrastructure, aid and expand the middle class, lift people out of poverty, take steps to promote clean energy and reduce pollution and move the country forward.
Hopefully.

If you want a movie scene that fits the Sinema-Manchin Problem, I’ve got one for Sinema (who grew up in poverty).

I saw a longer version of this video on TV last night. Manchin is prancing around, in his usual glory, talking to reporters, telling them he had a “good meeting”. Bernie is looking tired, old, and weary. Then Manchin calls Bernie over for a picture. Check out the look on Bernie’s face.
I’ve seen Casablanca numerous times, and this wasn’t a scene out of Casablanca.
Bernie has been calling out Manchin and Sinema, and it would be nice if he had some support from other Democratic Senators, most of whom are silent.
I think it’s important to call things what they are. The Democratic agenda is in serious trouble, and I’m sure that Biden and Sanders know by now that Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin are not going to budge an inch. I don’t know about Manchin, but I’m convinced that Sinema doesn’t give a damn if the bipartisan infrastructure bill passes the House. She proved her “bipartisan” point and she’s done. Manchin seems willing to take this “feud” to the limit, and he’s serious about gutting the Build Back Better Act to a very small fraction of its original content and purpose. It appears that legislating the Infrastructure bill isn’t providing much leverage with either Manchin or Sinema. They have other priorities.
Think of this what you will. But it does appear that the future of the country is being decided by a corrupt hillbilly from West Virginia and an equally corrupt freaky b1tch from Maricopa County, Arizona.
How in God’s name did this happen?
“Joe Manchin’s family does buffet style at Thanksgiving because all they’re all used to serving themselves.”
Noel Casler via Twitter.
You’d think with Manchin’s conflicts and Sinema’s open vote selling the GQP would be pointing fingers and saying “look at how corrupt the Dems are!”
Instead, they embrace the corruption and cheer cheer because game recognize game.
Yeah, well, Manchin and Sinema are the GQP’s useful idiots at the moment. They both have an expiration date in 2022 unless the Senate splits 50/50 again. But unfortunately, the damage they can do in the interim is devastating and they seem willing to do it.
I keep thinking that it looks as though a gutted BBB Act, assuming one gets legislated, will be to 21st century progressive policies what the Affordable Care Act is to universal healthcare. The ACA did a few good things for an inadequate, failing system.
I guess the Democrats can go into the 2022 midterms and tell the voters, “Y’all come out and vote for us again. We’re really sorry about the two crooks in the Senate. Turns out we need 52 or more to save the Republic.”
Yay!
