“Birtherfest” post goes viral

by David Safier

My Sunday post, Phoenix Tea Party Patriots' BirtherFest event cancelled due to lack of interest, went viral — on Reddit and tweeted far and wide. So far, it's brought an extra 10,000 hits to BfA and counting.

This humble blogger is gratified to help spread the word that even Pat Boone, sharing the billing with Sheriff Joe and LTC Terry Lakin, a birther doctor who refused to deploy to Afghanistan because he doesn't believe Obama was born in the U.S., couldn't draw enough ticket sales to make the event happen. Let's hope birtherism and the Tea Party are slipping into a place where a few crazies cling to that limp, damp-and-moldy, played-out tea bag while the rest of the country spends more time in the reality-based community.

And if I can bring news of Ally Miller, the Tea Party Patriot running for a Pima County Supervisor seat from the far right (even as she tries desperately to position herself as a sensible semi-centrist) to the attention of the national community, that's good too. Though to be honest, Ally is pretty small potatoes, not really worthy of a national spotlight. More important is to let District 1 folks know about her. Voters who love the Tea Party and what it stands for should definitely vote for Ally. Otherwise, Nancy Young Wright offers an experienced, intelligent, thoughtful alternative and deserves voters' support.

[Full disclosure: I volunteer for Nancy Young Wright's campaign. I'm also a member of the reality-based community.]
