Book Review: The General’s Son

Regardless of your view, if you’re immersed in the Israel – Palestine situation, as I have been, I’d highly recommend The General’s Son, by Miko Peled. I just finished it a few days ago. Peled is not a professional writer, so his style is only average. Overall, however, the information he conveys is compelling, and his book is a great read.

Peled is the son of Mitto Peled, a hero in the 1947-48 war and a leading general in the 1967 war. In 1997, Peled lost his 13 year-old niece to a suicide bomb. His book is the story of his (and to some extent of his sister and brother-in-law) journey following that attack.

Whether you’re staunchly pro-Israel or a Palestinian sympathizer, you’ll admire Peled’s ability to push himself beyond his fears. His is truly an amazing story.

And you’re guaranteed to learn stuff you never knew.

Enjoy.
