When you get a young, smart, educated, dedicated Democrat running for office, that's good. When the candidate gets more young, smart, educated, dedicated Democrats pounding the streets for him, that's even better. A classic twofer.
Brandon Patrick is running for one of the LD-10 house seats. He's a veteran of Afghanistan who was observing the Tucson political scene even when he was serving in the Air Force. Months after he returned home, he spearheaded the "No on Prop 200" campaign in 2009. The proposition would have mandated that the city hire more police officers and firefighters without creating a revenue stream to pay for them. Brandon ran a smart, cost effective campaign. Even though the early polls were strongly for the proposition and "Yes on Prop 200" oustspent the No's 6-to-1, on election night, the No's won big, 70% to 30%.
Here's a pic of the folks Brandon got out for his Saturday walk.
They're mostly on the young side (along with a few old hands) and represent what I expect will be a bright future for Southern Arizona Democrats.
