Former Vice President Dan Quayle, who lives in Paradise Valley, announced Friday during an interview on the Fox News Channel that his son, local lawyer Ben Quayle, will enter the Republican race to replace retiring Rep. John Shadegg, R-AZ, in the 3rd Congressional District. AZ/DC Blog – azdc – Ben Quayle, son of ex-veep, running for Shadegg's seat:
"The big news is my son, Ben Quayle, today filed his papers for congressman in the 3rd Congressional District here in Arizona," Quayle said. "That, in the Quayle family, is big news. Marilyn and I are absolutely thrilled that he's running for Congress. We hope that he does well. We're convinced that he'll be successful and we're very hopeful that he'll be the next congressman from the 3rd Congressional District here. He's filing his papers today."
The chip off the old potato will enter an already crowded field:
Former state senator Jim Waring
Former state senator Pamela Gorman
Former state representative Sam Crump
Paradise Valley mayor Vernon Parker
Former state representative Debra Brimhall
Former Paradise Valley mayor Ed Winkler
Former Maricopa County special hospital district board member Paulina Morris.
What I like best about this list is all the "former" politicians. Let's keep these losers unemployed.
The Arizona Guardian (subscription required) reports that soon-to-be-former Mayor of Phoenix Phil Gordon is asking about switching parties to run in the GOP primary for Shadegg's seat as well. Phx Mayor Phil Gordon moves closer to run at CD3; asks about switching parties You mean he's not a Republican? Gordon has endosed so many Republicans over the years I just assumed. It will be a homecoming for him.
