Yourwestvalley.com published this press release from Rep. Chris Deschene (D-LD2) who is exploring running for Secretary of State. I heard Chris speak in Pima County in December and found him to be a credibly attractive candidate with a solid background. Check him out. District 2 legislator explores run for Secretary of State:
Rep. Chris Deschene of District 2 in northern Arizona, is the first Native American to formally explore a run for statewide office in Arizona. He will discuss his reasons for running for Secretary of State at the District 9 Democrats’ meeting at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 25 in Menke's Community Room, 10307 W. Coggins Drive, one block south of Grand Avenue in Sun City.
“As we face redistricting, a history of voter disenfranchisement and a state on the brink of economic collapse, that office has never been more important,” Deschene said.
“As a state representative from northern Arizona, I am saddened and angered by the unreasonable minds who have taken our state backwards in education and in providing basic social services to vulnerable families. But we know that real change never comes from just one candidate or just one person. It comes when people of all backgrounds are engaged in the political process. If I am Secretary of State, encouraging that involvement will be my mission.”
After graduation from the United States Naval Academy, Deschene served 10 years as an infantry and Special Forces reconnaissance officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. Completing his service as a decorated officer, Deschene brought his leadership skills home to Arizona and completed a joint degree program at Arizona State University, where he earned a law degree and a master's in mechanical engineering.
Deschene is serving his first term in the Arizona House of Representatives.
