Tucson's first all-mail balloting election for city council results in a change in release of numbers on election night. This post 8:00 p.m. release of ballots verified and counted as of today is the only update tonight (as I understand it). Ballots received today will be verified and counted over the next few days.
Updated at 8:04 p.m. and Updated at 8:40 p.m.
City turnout (counted): 27.71 percent
Tucson Mayor
Jonathan Rothschild (D): 54.9 percent
Rick Grinnell (R): 40.1 percent
Mary DeCamp (G): 4.8 percent
Tucson City Council Ward 1
Regina Romero (D): 64.7 percent
Beryl Baker (G): 37 percent
Tucson City Council Ward 2
Paul Cunningham (D): 56.8 percent
Jennifer Rawson (R): 43 percent
Tucson City Council Ward 4
Shirley Scott (D): 51.1 percent
Tyler Vogt (R): 48.7 percent
Turnout is anticipated to exceed 40% so these preliminary numbers will increase over the next few days. Even so, it appears that Democrats have won the mayor's race and Wards 1 and 2 easily, with only Ward 4 close enough to have to wait to count all the ballots.
