Two Republic reporters won awards and a bit of cash from the Scripps Howard Foundation honoring the best journalism of 2010.
Linda Valdez of The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, receives $10,000 and the Walker Stone Award for editorials that made a case for comprehensive immigration reform as anti-immigration fever erupted in Arizona. [Category: Editorial Writing]

Laurie Roberts of The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, receives $10,000 and a trophy for prompting the Arizona Legislature to consider probate court reforms and calling into question the federal government's longstanding inaction on immigration policy. [Category: Commentary]
All the biggies were part of the competition — the NY Times, the LA Times, etc. — so it's quite an honor for these two to make the cut.
The Republic's "Arizona's Immigration Debate" was a finalist in Public Service Reporting in the Public Service Reporting category, but no reporter is listed.
