The series of full back-page advertisements for Mike Jette, Charles Borla’s report on the two candidates for Pima County Attorney (July 7, 2024), and the Op-Ed “Mike Jette, Democrat … in my own words” (July 8, 2024), all published on The Arizona Daily Star, convinced me to vote for Laura Conover in this Democratic Primary.
She is by no means ideal, but unlike her predecessor LaWall, Conover has a better grasp of justice and mercy—one without the other is tyranny—and is open to improvement from lessons learned.
Not voting for Jette is fundamental. His career path appears to be a chain of stepping stones, never one of duration, and his party affiliations a matter of convenience. Now a Democratic candidate in a predominantly Democratic county, he is heavily funded by Republican donors.
Based on the sources cited above, Jette appears to be a candidate of expedience not principle. Beware: He who pays the piper calls the tune — after the election, that is!

Jette is an opportunist and a fake Democrat. He first registered in Tucson as a Democrat in 2002. He changed to “Party Not Designated” in 2005. He registered as a Republican in 2011. He switched back to unaffiliated in 2012. He registered as an independent in 2015 and unaffiliated in 2019. According to the Pima County Recorder’s Office, Jette registered as a Democrat in 2023.
Dark Money is being spent in support of Jette’s campaign by an out-of-state group interfering with our local election: “A Public Voice,” a PAC that funds MAGA Republicans.
Republican David Mehl, who supports anti-abortion groups, is a major donor to Jette. Mehl is the Republican member of the Redistricting Committee that gerrymandered LD17 and gave Republicans a majority of districts.
Jette lives in LD20, but the Democratic District Chair says Jette has not canvassed, written a postcard, held a fundraiser, or made calls for Democrats. He came to an LD20 meeting in March but not after that. He’s done nothing for the Democratic Party and is not even a PC.
The right-wing Goldwater Institute supports Jette.
