Democratic AG Candidate Kris Mayes on Sunday Square Off

Democratic candidate for attorney general, Kris Mayes ws interviewed by Brahm Resnik on 12 News Sunday Square Off.

Disappointed in Resnik. Mayes wanted to talk about depoliticizing the attorney general’s office, which has been a major problem under Mark Brnovich for the past eight years.  But Resnik turned a deaf ear to what she said and immediately turned to what he wanted to talk about, the Mexican border, the only issue that Republicans want to talk about.

Mayes also schooled Resnik about the role of the attorney general as a manager of the AG’s office.

Mayes then discussed her views on abortion and Arizona’s 1864 territorial anti-abortion law that could go back into effect in September. Mayes pledges that she will not prosecute doctors, nurses, pharmacists and women seeking abortions under this archaic law.

The discussion then turned to Mark Brnovich seeking to revive Arizona’s death penalty executions. Mayes will uphold the death penalty in Arizona, but “we have to get it right – we can’t have misfeasance” in the botched executions as we have seen in the past.

Finally, Mayes addresses Arizona’s water crisis and fighting for Arizona water rights. She brings up the deal that gifted ground water to a Saudi Arabian company buying up farmland to grow alfalfa for cattle in Saudi Arabia as an exmaple of something she would seek to put to an end.
