Reaction among the three Democrats looking to unseat Mr. Schweikert in the new Congressional District One was swift and pronounced.

Arizona Congressional District One Candidate Ginger Sykes Torres

Ginger Sykes Torres commented:

“This is beyond disappointing for Arizonans but not at all surprising considering Schweikert’s track record. Congressional District One is made up of small business owners, working people, and fiscally responsible individuals who play by the rules every day. Yet, their representative for the last decade has been hit with nearly $200,000 in fines for breaking the law and using his office for personal gain. This is not leadership. This is corruption. It is time for a change.”

Arizona Congressional District One Candidate Delina DiSanto

Delina DiSanto relayed:

“As a quick summary, Schweikert violated 11 ethics rules — ranging from misusing just under $300,000 in campaign funds as a personal tab, to pressuring his taxpayer-funded staff members to campaign for him, to dodging and lying to the committee during the investigation.

David Schweikert has consistently proven that he does not put Arizonans first, whether it be through his ethics violations or voting record. He has violated his oath, abused his power, and broken our trust. It’s time we remove him from office in November.”

2022 Arizona Congressional District One Candidate Jevin Hodge

Jevin Hodge wrote:

“This latest development for Corrupt David Schweikert, this time a fine from the FEC of historic proportions, is sadly not surprising. We must elect a candidate who will focus on Arizona’s families instead of someone only looking out for themselves. Our movement is backed by leaders like Rep. Ruben Gallego, 15 Members of Congress, over 50 state and local elected leaders, and a growing list of labor unions. I look forward to debating and defeating David Schweikert in this election.”
