Four Democratic Arizona State Senate Nominees launched ADLCC-sponsored ads yesterday to promote the issues of reproductive freedom and fully funding education.
Two of the nominees, State Senator Christine Marsh in Legislative District (LD) Four and Eva Burch in LD Nine concentrated their 30-second ads on the issue of reproductive freedom.
The Marsh one focuses on the support of her opponent, Nancy Barto to take away a woman’s right to choose, even in cases of rape or incest. The ad has Senator Marsh saying “They’ve gone too far…the last thing we need is politicians making anyone else’s health care decisions for them. As long as I’m a State Senator, I’ll never stop fighting for your freedom to choose.”
The Burch ad, centered in a patient room, has the nominee, a licensed nurse practitioner, starting off by saying, “too many politicians think they should be making decisions in rooms just like this one…I’m running for State Senate to get extreme politicians out of the exam room and out of our health care decisions.” The ad ends with her stating, “you shouldn’t need a politician’s permission to do what’s right for your family.”
LD Districts Two and Thirteen Senate Nominees Jeanne Casteen and Cindy Hans released ads on the need to fully fund public education.
In the Casteen ad, the nominee discusses her reasons for running for the Creighton Elementary School Board and the results she achieved in that position. Ms. Casteen then pivoted to their State Senate candidacy, saying she would work “to raise teacher pay, end taxpayer bailouts of private schools, and get qualified teachers in every classroom” because “our students deserve the best public schools.”
Cindy Hans also recounts her experience as a Middle School Prinicpal at the beginning of her ad, saying how she “witnessed miracles” from Arizona Educators as they “inspired students and stretched dollars as far as they could,” even to the point of using their own hard-earned money to help kids. Like the Casteen ad, the Hans one then goes into what the nominee would do if elected to the State Senate: raise teacher pay and reduce class sizes. The ad concludes with the nominee saying “I’ve always fought for our students and I always will.”
Commenting on the ads for the Arizona Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (ADLCC,) Executive Director Elsa O’Callaghan wrote:
“Everything is on the line this year, and at the ADLCC, we are investing deeply in competitive races that will give us the best opportunity to win in November. Our candidates carry the personal, professional, and lived experience to solve the biggest challenges facing Arizona. A candidate like Eva Burch who is a healthcare provider specializing in women’s health is the type of legislator desperately needed at the State Capitol, where laws are being decided about women’s bodies daily.” Similarly, Senator Christine Marsh, Jeanne Casteen, and Cindy Hans, who have a combined experience of nearly 65 years in the classroom possess the real experience to make decisions that will improve the lives of our students and teachers.”
