Well, there was not any good news to report in the Arizona Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee’s (ADLCC) special edition of “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.”
But, it could get potentially ugly if, as Democratic Senate Leader Priya Sundareshan contends, Republicans do not stop taking three week long vacations from their responsibilities at the Arizona State Legislature when there is still much government business to attend to before the legislative session ends on June 30, 2025.
Senator Sundareshan started her presentation by telling viewers that after coming back to the Capitol for one day in session, apparently fatigued House Republicans were so overcome with the prospects of actual governing and serving the people, that they decided to take another two week break from the responsibilities voters elected them to fulfill.
The State Senate, also controlled by MAGA leaders, has been out since May 6 with a declared due date of May 28.
Arizonans should rightfully wonder if they will hold to that commitment or bolt for another week to keep in sync with their MAGA House Comrades.
In her comments for “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,” Senator Sundareshan relayed that these delays by self centered and wimpy MAGA Republicans were ill timed because:
“All of this, while Arizona faces a government shutdown on June 30th. If a budget isn’t passed. And oh, by the way, Federal Republicans are working to throw us further into chaos. Governor Hobbs gave Republicans a budget proposal all the way back in January and in the five-month since, Republican leadership has yet to offer a single budget of their own while they’re wasting time. Democrats are ready to work and deliver real solutions like fully funding our public schools, providing access to child care, and ESA voucher oversight. Arizona cannot afford a legislature that just clocks out when things are getting tough. With a Republican-controlled House and Senate, it’s tough to keep up with all the extremism, but Arizona’s Democrats won’t stop fighting for you.”
Later in a response to a request for comment to Blog for Arizona, Senator Sundareshan added:
“Arizona Democrats have introduced many bills this year to address affordability and provide services that working people rely on. Republicans have refused to give those bills even a hearing, and instead have attacked and delayed funding services for people with disabilities. And now the federal cuts Republicans are pushing threaten to throw everything into chaos.”
Do not be surprised if MAGA Republicans at the State House try to ram through a skinny budget to avoid any serious efforts at compromise with the Governor and her proposals which, as Senator Sundareshan mentioned, were introduced close to six months ago.
Time will tell.

@JK
I was being sarcastic before and know that you all are receiving the daily money. Can you explain why you an esteemed member of your principled party, the one that is so careful with the purse strings, and you living so close to the Capitol with your electric Tesla, doesn’t just say no to the daily dollars? Please don’t tell me that old “but they take it too” stuff. Really, explain to me why you are choosing to accept the per diem during this vacation.
Everybody was sent home because almost all of the bills, except for the budget bills, have been taken care of, and there is nothing to do until the budget is finalized. One reason why the budget is not finalized is because the governor has refused to negotiate with us for the last two months. She kept saying she wanted prop 123 passed, although now everyone including her has decided to put prop 123 off until next year. So all of this delay is on the governor.
I don’t know if Senator Sundareshan is aware of this, or if she is just feeding red meat to her base with this talk about us being on vacation. Either way, I thought readers of this blog should know the truth for a change.
P.S. The Democrat legislators wasted no time running home also.
Where is your budget John?
I’m sure since people have once again been sent home that the per diems also stopped too. Right ?
@ Eric –
Don’t hold your breath.
The anti-society grift never stops with this bunch.
