As Laurie Roberts sarcastically wrote in her evening November 30 column: “Gee didn’t see that coming.”
What she was referring to was the Wrath of Donald Trump descending on Governor Doug Ducey.

Why is one of Arizona’s leading Trump sycophants now on the 2016 and 2020 Popular Vote Loser’s Fecal Matter List?
Well, it probably started when the soon to be ex-President spent his early afternoon watching Fox News. He was aghast that the Arizona Governor he thought he owned was about to cosign the certification papers declaring Joe Biden and Mark Kelly winners in Arizona’s November 3, 2020 elections.
Apparently, he tried to call Mr. Ducey when he was signing the papers. The Arizona Governor had remarked that when Trump calls him on his cell phone, the tune of “Hail to the Chief” plays.
I have to admit when I first watched the ceremony, I did not hear the phone call coming in.
Others, like journalist Brahm Resnik did and posted what happened on Twitter.
HE'LL GET BACK TO YOU Back in July, Gov. Ducey said he changed his White House ringtone to "Hail to The Chief" so he wouldn't miss a call from Trump/Pence. Guess who called while Ducey was certifying Arizona's election? (7 secs in) pic.twitter.com/bzBGpfSIDf

Instead of picking up the phone, Ducey just set it aside and continued signing the papers. One can hear Secretary of State Katie Hobbs laugh when this was going on.
Trump then, like he did on Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and that states Secretary of State, cried foul, tweeting:
Why is he rushing to put a Democrat in office, especially when so many horrible things concerning voter fraud are being revealed at the hearing going on right now. @OANN What is going on with @dougducey? Republicans will long remember! https://t.co/XILGaHcyw7

He then tweeted:
TRUE! https://t.co/GaldE1fto5

The Liar in Chief/Mad King also called into that sham fringe “Republican” event headlined by right-wing nut jobs Rudy Giuliani, Jenna Ellis, Mark Finchem, and Kelli Ward, saying, to a chorus of bulls for Ducey, that the Arizona Governor did the wrong thing by signing the papers allowing Mark Kelly to take the oath of office as a United States Senator. The Aspiring Duce then asked why Ducey would do this when he repeated the bogus claim that “there was so much corruption” in the Arizona Election Process.
LET’S GIVE THEM SOME SPACE Is the Ducey-Trump bromance over? This is a really bad public breakup. pic.twitter.com/nn3C3cxK3p

To wide applause, the Chief Executive Demagogue finished by saying “Arizona will not forget” with regards to Ducey’s actions.
Trump is right.
The people in Arizona will not forget that for the first time in four years Doug Ducey did not kiss Trump’s tuchus and did what was right for Democracy and the American ideal.
In a rare instance, Doug Ducey showed guts by putting that phone aside on live television.
He later commented on social media:
“I’ve been pretty outspoken about Arizona’s election system, and bragged about it quite a bit, including in the Oval Office. And for good reason.
We’ve been doing early voting since 1992. Arizona didn’t explore or experiment this year. We didn’t cancel election day voting as some pushed for — we weren’t going to disenfranchise any voter.
In Arizona, we have some of the strongest election laws in the country, laws that prioritize accountability and clearly lay out procedures for conducting, canvassing, and even contesting the results of an election.
We’ve got ID at the polls. We review EVERY signature (every single one) on early ballots — by hand — unlike other states that use computers. Prohibitions on ballot harvesting. Bipartisan poll observers. Clear deadlines, including no ballots allowed after Election Day.
The problems that exist in other states simply don’t apply here. I’ve also said all along, I’m going to follow the law.
The law requires the Secretary of State, in the presence of the Governor and the Attorney General, to canvass the election on the fourth Monday following the general election. That was today.

This can ONLY be delayed if counties DECLINE to certify their results. ALL 15 counties in Arizona — counties run by both parties — certified their results.
The canvass of the election triggers a 5-day window for any elector to bring a credible challenge to the election results in court. If you want to contest the results, now is the time. Bring your challenges.
That’s the law. I’ve sworn an oath to uphold it, and I take my responsibility seriously.”
Today’s events do not mean that everyone should feel sorry for Doug Ducey.
As Roberts alluded to in her column, the Arizona Governor sold his political soul to the Trump Devil.
Now he and his party have to pay the price for that Faustian Bargain.
Ducey could probably kiss goodbye any higher political office ambitions he harbored for the foreseeable future because the Know-Nothing Arizona and National Right-Wing Base will not support him.
Trump will definitely not be sending any endorsements in Ducey’s direction.
His political party, the former Republican Party, is now split between the Know-Nothing Branch and the Big Business-Liberteraian Wing. The former party of Lincoln may be so fractured that Arizona Democratic candidates in 2022 and 2024 could attract voters from the middle of the political spectrum and build future gains on top of those from recent electoral cycles at the state and local levels.
This may also be true in Georgia where Trump’s pre-adolescent behavior is causing potential political fractures among Republicans there.
Today may actually go down as a great day in the history of the Arizona Democratic Party.
All because Doug Ducey did the right thing for a change and received the Wrath of Trump.

“The Market can solve anything” crowd is pretty quiet nowadays. I remember having that conversation with WWW, AKA Ward Wackjob Wing, as she spewed nonsense about socialized Medicine and how the market can solve heath care cost issues. As she allegedly practiced medicine in Mohave County, where over half the population is on Medicare or AHCCCS.
But what about Ducey’s mantra, “I cut taxes every year I was in office!” Seems that doesn’t matter one iota now to the Ward Wackjob Wing (WWW). Seems all that mattered was kowtowing to the Orange Incompetent. The irony is breathtaking. And Ducey deserves what he gets. Maybe he can go back to selling ice cream. And maybe the next fraud who says “we need a businessman in office”, should be horsewhipped.
Considering the last three “businessmen” to infect the Oval Office, Hoover, Bush the Lesser & the still here Vulgar Talking Yam, have left their economies a smoking ruin, you just may have a point!
I only wish this blog interface had a “like” button. Perkins and Wileybud are 100% correct.
