If we do not stand up and defend the reproductive rights of women, the pro-life forced birth movement will take those rights away and reduce women to second class citizens under the Constitution.
We just heard Rep. Paul Ryan say during the vice presidential debate this week that he and Willard "Mittens" Romney intend to put the fundamental constitutional rights of women to life, liberty and property to a referendum vote (disguised as a ban on abortion and most forms of contraceptives). Fundamental constitutional rights are not subject to a vote — that's what makes them fundamental constitutional rights. The minority is protected from tyranny by the majority.
A woman does not lose her constitutional rights to life, liberty and property at the moment of conception, reducing her to a second class citizen to her fertilized egg, and making her uterus "property of the state" subject to regulation.
Romney-Ryan promises to stack the U.S. Supreme Court with conservative activist judges who will rubberstamp their actions. Take this threat seriously.
featuring high profile actors including Meryl Streep, Sarah Silverman
and Amy Poehler to warn women about the threats to their reproductive
freedoms and urging them to sign the Bill of Reproductive Rights. Meryl Streep speaks out for Bill of Reproductive Rights | The Raw Story:
“Every day the opponents of our fundamental reproductive rights are passing
laws to take those rights away,” said Streep in one of the first two
ads, which were released Tuesday. “They’re shutting down doctors and
clinics across the nation.”
“And have you heard some of the things they’re saying about us?” she
continued. “It would make Sarah Silverman blush,” Streep said, as the
camera flashed to Silverman, who gave a wry look, but said nothing.
The Bill of Reproductive Rights, authored by the Center for Reproductive Rights and available at DrawTheLine.org, has three parts.
Mother Jones magazine reports that the three tenets are:
1. The right to make our own decisions about our reproductive health
and future, free from intrusion or coercion by any government, group, or
individual.
2. The right to a full range of safe, affordable, and readily
accessible reproductive health care—including pregnancy care, preventive
services, contraception, abortion, and fertility treatment—and accurate
information about all of the above.
3. The right to be free from discrimination in access to reproductive health care or on the basis of our reproductive decisions.
“The pledge comes as CRR marks its 20th anniversary,” wrote Mother Jones‘s
Kate Sheppard. “This year was also the 20th anniversary of the Supreme
Court’s decision in Planned Parenthood v. Casey, in which the court
first allowed states to put their own limits on abortion access. It’s
also just ahead of the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade in January 2013.”

UPDATE: The Obama campaign is up with a new ad on this topic, entitled "Decision." Description:
Voiceover: "As you're making your decision … maybe you're wondering what to believe about Mitt Romney."
"Well, when it comes to protecting your access to birth control …
and the basic women's health care services Planned Parenthood provides
… one thing we must remember, is this:"
Mitt Romney: "I'll cut off funding to Planned Parenthood."
Voiceover: "He'll cut it off. Cut us off."
Mitt Romney: "Planned Parenthood. We're going to get rid of that."
Voiceover: "Women need to know … the real Mitt Romney."
