Drinking Liberally 2/1

Bottle_35
It is that time of the week once again when liberals gather to share a beer and plot to take over the world. Drinking Liberally will be meeting at the Shanty on 4th Ave (401 E. 9th Street, at the 4th Avenue underpass) starting at 6pm.

This evening will be a traditional Drinking Liberally with no headliners, just conversation with fellow liberals.

We have a slight change of format in mind for Thursday. A few months ago we took a run at more formally introducing ourselves to our fellow Drinkers, and at the urging of regulars Doug and Marlene, we will be doing that again. Don’t worry, the terminally shy are exempt and I’m giving you the skinny up front so you can decide what to say at your leisure.

Here are some suggested things to share:

  • Tell us your name (helps reinforce for us weak-memoried people!)
  • Tell us where else you’ve lived besides Arizona
  • Tell us something about yourself that we probably don’t already know
  • Tell us which political campaigns you’ve worked on
  • What are the top two political or social issues on your mind today?
  • Identify something good that is happening in the world (it’s so easy for us to focus on the negative)

Feel free to add whatever thoughts that might be burning a hole in your mental britches.

As always, finger foods for people to nosh on are allowed and appreciated. Fruit, cheese, crackers, nuts, party mixes, and sweets, especially chocolate sweets, seem to be crowd favorites.

For those of you staying away because of weather, don’t fret; due to the cold and likely rain, and lack of a headline speaker, we’ll be inside this week rather than huddling around the heaters 🙂 We have no more special guests scheduled for now, and we will remain classic Drinking Liberally until the weather is less inclement and we can use the patio in reasonable comfort again.

Don’t forget, Reading Liberally is coming up on the 7th of February. See Tasha Nelson for full details. If you didn’t read this month’s selection, you can still come and learn about the book from the discussion (not to mention have some tasty soup and a glass of wine), and, of course, it’s never too early to get started on next month’s selection, Barak Obama’s "The Audacity of Hope".
