Easiest Prediction Ever

The machinations of Doug MacEachern and Robert Robb at the Republic are beyond pathetic. You could see their bullshit endorsement of Ducey coming a mile away. I’m not gloating here, as a gazillion others made this call as well, on similar reasoning. Here’s my Facebook prediction from September 30th:

Okay, the Republic has endorsed three Ds in statewide races. The Garcia endorsement was unequivocal and quite clearly intended to influence the outcome of the election. They want Garcia to win. The other two were weak endorsements, not intended to influence the outcome of the election, but to set the stage for an endorsement of the Republican in the Governor’s race.

Perhaps we shouldn’t expect better. Perhaps we should recognize that Gannett is interested in profit above all else and that the Republic is a third-rate paper with largely mediocre personnel (some exceptions). A well-run newspaper would have shown MacEachern and Robb the door long ago, not because of their views, but because of their abysmal reasoning skills and rank intellectual dishonesty.

Still, it’s embarrassing. They geared rigged their endorsements in other races to protect their endorsement in the Governor’s race from charges of partisanship. And the strategy was absurdly transparent. And corrupt.

    • Thanks, Steve.

Truth is, others called this more presciently than I, as they saw this coming with the Republic’s primary endorsement of Ducey, when the Ed board acknowledged that Smith would make a better Governor, but performed mental gymnastics to justify endorsing Ducey.
