Entrepreneur and Community Activist Sarah Liguori Appointed to Fill Aaron Lieberman’s House Seat in LD 28; She will run for Election in 2022

When now-former Legislative District 28 State Representative Aaron Lieberman announced his resignation from the Arizona State Legislature to focus his energies on running for Governor, the Maricopa Board of County Supervisors reviewed the qualifications of eight possible successors to that position. Three finalists were interviewed.

Financial Planner, commercial real estate manager, and community activist Sarah Liguori was chosen to complete Mr. Lieberman’s term.

Commenting on the selection, Maricopa County Board supervisor Bill Gates relayed:

“Sarah Liguori is a working mom who understands her district. All the people nominated were excellent, but Sarah brings a private sector background and an eye to the future of our state that will serve the residents of District 28 well.”

On receiving the news of her appointment, Ms. Liguori stated, through the House Democratic Caucus:

“I have loved living in Legislative District [28] and am proud of the work we have done to elect amazing Democrats. I look forward to this opportunity and strive to provide positive change to all people of Arizona.”

A Tucson native who has resided in the Phoenix area for the last sixteen years, Ms. Liguori will be sworn into office on October 26, 2021. She will run for election in her own right to the State House in 2022.

In the State House, she wants to focus on “bettering people’s lives,” especially in the areas of education, environmental sustainability, women’s rights, and voter’s rights.

Ms. Liguori graciously took the time to discuss her appointment to the Arizona State House and her political plans moving forward.

The questions and her responses are below.

1) Please tell the readers how you were selected to fill out the remainder of Representative Lieberman’s term for Legislative District 28.

“With Aaron’s (Representative Lieberman’s) departure to run for Governor, the process began with candidates expressing their interest to run for the appointment for his seat. We saw eight incredibly talented people apply, a majority of them were women, I might add. A meeting was held where all elected PC’s were able to vote for their top three candidates. From there, the Board of Supervisors interviewed us and made the ultimate decision on the seat appointment. I am grateful to have gone through this process and value all that I learned throughout it. LD 28 would have been in great hands with the candidates that came forward and I am honored to carry on as part of the team in the legislature with Representative Butler.”

2) What are at least three issues you would like to work on as a member of the Arizona State House?

“I am passionate about a variety of issues, all relating back to empowering and bettering people’s lives. Women’s rights, voting rights, and education have been and will remain to be the important areas we need to protect and defend here in our State. Climate change is another top actionable item I am passionate about. In my experience as an advisor, I worked directly with people facing education and economic barriers, and in my time in real estate, I worked hard to bring awareness to housing affordability and incorporating sustainability in building communities.”

3) In the 2022 elections, what are at least two reasons voters should elect you over any opponent in the House race?

“While I don’t have a political track record in the legislature yet, voters can rely on my record in my personal and professional life. I have worked in our district’s communities for over 10 years, helping individual families and local businesses, as well as serving on a variety of non-profit boards and projects directly impacting our community. I am devoted to the people of this State and motivated to be a voice of positive change for them as their Representative. I lead with logic and empathy and understand the positive impact we can make when we work together for a common goal.”

4) Is there anything not covered in the first four questions that you would like the readers to know about you and your candidacy? Please explain.

“I have worked and lived in various regions of our State, from Tucson to Cochise County, to Phoenix. I understand the diversity of Arizonans and that we can use this as our strength as a whole. As a mom of two young boys, I am proud to make Phoenix their home and want to ensure that they have a hospitable place to grow up and thrive in.”
