AZ Dems AAPI Chair Cat Ripley at DGT

“Catherine has served as the Executive Director for the Pima County Democratic Party, taught Political Science at Pima Community College, and was elected as a PCC Governing Board member. She is currently a Professor of Practice in Global Security Studies at the University of AZ and serves as Chair of the AAPI Arizona Caucus. Cat has two grown children and is a caretaker for her 91 yr old mother.

Catherine Ripley was one of the first women accepted to the U.S. Naval Academy where she earned a B.S. in Engineering and Political Science. She served as a Naval Officer for 26-years in leadership tours that spanned across the globe, including two tours as a U.S. Diplomat.

While in uniform, Catherine served as an Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer and later a Counter-Terrorism expert in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. She also served teaching Leadership and Military History at Harvard University, Boston University, Tufts, M.I.T., and Northeastern. She earned her Masters Degree in National Security Affairs at the Navy Postgraduate School in Monterey. After her military retirement, she worked as an International Business Development executive at Raytheon in Tucson. “

Carolyn’s note: Cat served 2 years of a 6 year term on Pima Community College Governing Board representing District 1, elected in Nov. 2020. She also ran for LD 10 House in the Dem primary of August 2018 and came in 4th in a 4 way race for 2 seats. She is half Japanese American.
