“Tucson is seen as a leader in the movement for green infrastructure across the nation. For shade and beauty, carbon capture, and traffic calming, we can see that cooling the urban heat island with rainwater-fed trees and shrubs brings life to our landscape and lifts the hearts of residents and visitors alike. What have we accomplished since Mayor Regina Romero announced the Million Trees campaign? What more needs to be done? What obstacles must we face?

Join us for a deep look at the promise, the progress, and what we can do to support this vital part of making Tucson sustainable. Our panel will feature:
Nichole Casebeer: Project Manager and Landscape Designer, Pima County Regional Flood Control District
Nicole Gillett: Tucson Urban Forestry Program Manager
Mead Mier: Planning Manager, Pima Association of Governments.

Mead Mier-Wellborn will be representing the Santa Cruz Watershed Collaborative as a member of their Leadership Team. Her role with SCWC and nearly two-decade tenure as Watershed Planning Manager at the Pima Association of Governments have common goals and entail: engaging stakeholders, facilitating data-driven decision-making, and fostering regional coordinatio\that benefits environmental and social well-being across the watershed.

Nicole Gillett is Tucson’s very first Urban Forestry Program Manager — which basically means she’s on a mission to make the desert a little shadier (in the best way possible). From coordinating tree care across city departments to teaming up with community groups, Nicole works to implement Tucson’s Community Forest Action Plan, helping to grow a healthier, greener city for everyone. With over a decade of experience at the nexus of people and nature,

Nicole brings a deep love of our shared environment backed by a BA in Environmental Science and an MS in Geography. When she’s not out exploring Tucson’s tree canopy, she’s likely curled up at home with a good book, a cup of tea, and her two cats soaking up the sunshine.

Nichole Casebeer is a Landscape Architecture Project Manager with Pima County’s Regional Flood Control District, where she leads equity-centered design and community engagement for the District’s green infrastructure and restoration projects. Before joining the County, Nichole worked as the Green Stormwater Infrastructure Program Manager at Tucson Clean & Beautiful and as a Community Restoration Project Manager at
Watershed Management Group. She holds a Master’s in Landscape Architecture and dual Bachelor’s degrees in International Relations and Architecture, grounding her work at the intersection of people, place, and policy.
