Ward 6 Council candidate forum

April 23 @ 5:30 pm 7:00 pm MST

by Carolyn Classen, blogger

“Beginning “April 1, 2024 people who are interested in applying to fill out the balance of the ward 6 city council term (to Dec. 2025) may apply. In order to be eligible you must have lived in ward 6 for at least 1 year and have lived in the city of Tucson for at least 3 years.

Send your letter of interest and a resume to the city clerk at cityclerk@tucsonaz.gov. That office will gather all of the applications and screen them for eligibility. Then, on Tuesday, April 23rd the League of Women Voters will host a candidate forum so all eligible candidates may present themselves to the public. The meeting will be held at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and will run from 5:30 until roughly 7pm. It will also be live-streamed – this flyer has all of the pertinent information about the forum. (?)

Carolyn’s note: I found the LWVGT youtube link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3Y5ztuk8Ns0JkhGXsmz4Vg

Or I hear it may only telecast via their FB page: https://www.facebook.com/lwvgreatertucson

If you would like to submit questions for the candidates please email them to the ward 6 office between now and April 12th. That email address is ward6@tucsonaz.gov. The ward 6 staff will forward every question we receive to the city clerk who in turn will send them to the League. The League will review all of the questions submitted and form a representative list of questions to ask the candidates. The number of questions candidates will have an opportunity to answer will depend on how many of them participate in the forum.

The final selection of my replacement will be made by the 5 remaining council members and the mayor during a public meeting – likely the last M&C meeting in April although the date of that meeting has not been decided at this time. They will winnow the full list of candidates down to 4, invite that group to come to the meeting and make a pitch for themselves to the governing body. A majority vote of that group of 6 will determine who fills out the balance of the term.

The ward 6 office will operate ‘business as usual’ until a selection has been made by the M&C. ” (from outgoing Council member Steve K. Location was first the City Council chambers, but updated flyer has it now at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.)
