Fill ‘er Up in CD1

The main event in Arizona politics in 2008, outside of the Presidential race, of course, will be the battle for control of CD1. It seems likely the Renzi won’t be standing for re-election and CD1 will become on open-seat free-for-all. Our nominee will likely need north of a million to compete in the district, just for the general election. I don’t know who will emerge victorious, and I don’t want to handicap the race. What I do know is that it is in the interest of every Arizona Democrat that our nominee be well funded, even if we don’t know who it will be.

Understandably, many will be reluctant to weigh in on a primary contest in a CD not our own. We may not understand the issues or the local history of the contestant sufficiently to make a wise choice in a distant race. But the center of political gravity in CD1 is shifting from northern Arizona to Pinal county right up the road. This is becoming more of a local race, and may will want to help Democrats win there. To that end, I have set up an ActBlue nominee page, so that you can donate to the eventual winner of the CD1 Democratic primary contest right now. A link to this donation page will remain on the right sidebar until the nominee is selected.

I’m asking that you consider donating the cost of one tank of gas for your vehicle to fuel the general election for the Democratic nominee. That’s a small investment of capital for the huge return of a Democratic-majority House delegation.

  1. Well, “American Chauvinist” breaks the cycle of rationality. Please ignore comment #4 and return to the object and intent to fill up CD1. Thank you.

  2. Cd1 may be the first Congressional Seat in 2008 NOT to go Democratic or Republican but to THE PEOPLE!

We The People want The Rule Of Law Enforced on Jim Click and McDonalds who are suing you and I the Taxpayer so Jim Click can bankroll his Illegal Workforce to insure his bottom line profits and depress wages in Southern Arizona!

Any one of you who supports Clicks Slave Labor is NOT a believer in Freedom, Liberty and The Rights of Legal U.S. Citizens given to us in The United States Constitution of Life Liberty and The Pursuit Of Happyness!

Illegal Mexican Hordes breaking into our Country and our Homes stealing those Rights are Invaders from a Foriegn Country and need to be held accountable.

Lawyers and Courts that are Political Hacks for Mexico City will be dealt with by The Rule Of Law; just as Congressman are serving time today so will the treasonist Socialist Communists of our time!

Both Political Parties are warming up to Hugo Chavezes Communist Socialistic ways of suppression of Free Speech throgh passsage of The Fairness Doctrine and Socialized Medicine for EVERYONE will kill million of Americans for the sake of Unsuring Illegal Mexican Nationals and there children. The figures released by The GAO reflect that 12 million of the Uninsured are Illegal’s.

  3. To I’m torn on this one…”

I understand when you write you, on principal, you are against Dollars from outside the district; but one can’t expect to run a competitive campaign, especially for federal office, in our huge rural district without money from “outside”. If you look at past election year campaign FEC reports of donors and their addresses, the picture is clear. In comparison to most other districts, there is little money available to be raised within rural CD1.

This is especially true if one of the candidates is an incumbent, or, and I think my dreams are actually going to come true, it is an open seat election.

So, thank you for AZ Blog for being on top of what we need to do; and, please, anyone outside CD1 we need your help to turn CD-1 back to Blue. Jump in anytime you feel is a good time. Thank you!

  4. Michael,

I’m surprised I didn’t notice this one earlier. Can you say more about why you think Renzi won’t run? I completely respect the “No” answer if that’s the case, but I am curious about your conclusion. I know that Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick has announced her intention to run for the seat.

I am also comfortable with “unnamed but very reliable sources.”

I’ve heard some buzz but nothing even remotely solid. Of course, my sphere is smaller than yours.

  5. I’m torn on this one, Michael.

As a matter of principal, I am against people from outside a district giving money to candidates. (Yes, I know that it is how things are done, but I think that needs to change. That is why I like Glassman) However, I really really want to see a Democrat back in that seat. I am also against the idea of blind giving. what if someone unacceptable yahoo (ala Graf for the republicans in CD8 last year) gets the nomination. I would be stuck having given $$ to someone unpalatable.

However, as a former resident of CD1 with strong ties to the area, I will probably gove something, but I may wait until the general election.
