The Flinn Foundation Report has released its 2022 report on the Latest Progress on the Biosciences in Arizona.
Phoenix and Arizona are leading the way to making the Grand Canyon State a bioscience powerhouse.
Among its findings, the Foundation noted that since 2020:
- Bioscience jobs were up 5.4 percent.
- Average bioscience wages were up 31 percent and wage growth increased 9.4 percent.
- Research and development at Arizona’s three universities is up 3.6 percent.
- Patents at Arizona’s three universities is up 30 percent.
On social media, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego celebrated the Flinn Report, posting:

In the post, Mayor Gallego highlighted a video from six months ago, commenting that Phoenix, since 2019 has:
- Added five million square feet in biomedical space.
- $3.2 billion in bioscience capital investment.
- 8,000 new jobs in the bioscience sector.
The Mayor also noted:
- The development of the Phoenix Biomedical Campus (a consortium of industrial and educational entities working in the biosciences.)
- The largest concentration of health care and research professionals in the reason.
- Phoenix being fifth in 2020 in emerging life science clusters.
- The expansion of the Mayo Clinic by three million square feet.
- A bioscience high school in Phoenix.

In an additional quote provided to Blog for Arizona, Mayor Gallego relayed:
“Phoenix has attracted and grown global innovators and leaders advancing precision medicine for the fight against cancer and other life-threating diseases. Investments of more than $500 million in the Phoenix Biomedical Campus, and new growth under development, underscore the vibrancy of our bioscience and life science ecosystem. It’s resulting in good jobs with high wages to support families, and more importantly creating a center of innovation and an emerging cluster of advanced therapeutics which will benefit Arizonans and people worldwide.”
