Free documentary “A New Society” at the Loft Cinema

SUNDAY, MARCH 3 at 3:00PM | FREE ADMISSION at the Loft Cinema, 3233 E. Speedway Blvd, Tucson

The showing of the documentary will be followed by a remarks by Noam Chomsky, Marc Fleurbaey, Thomas Christiano, Leslye Obiora, and Eldar Shafir.

“The crisis of democracy and capitalism in recent decades, in the rich countries, has generated a decline of hope for a just society. In spite of reduced poverty in several countries, social hardships reminiscent of the early phase of Western capitalism are widespread.

Yet neither the collapse of utopian illusions nor booming capitalism in developing countries should mean the end of the quest for justice.

Can we hope for a better society?

Social scientists have never been so well equipped to provide an answer, thanks to the development of economics, sociology, legal theory and philosophy since WWII.

The International Panel on Social Progress (IPSP) harnessed the competence of hundreds of experts about social issues and has delivered a report addressed to all social actors, movements, organizations, politicians and decision-makers, in order to provide them with the best expertise to guide social change.

A New Society by Sofie Wolthers documents the work of the International Panel on Social Progress and highlights the themes addressed by the Panel in a thought provoking and inspiring movie.

This is a rental of The Loft Cinema, presented by the University of Arizona Department of Philosophy”
