From the Department of Symbolism

by David Safier

At approximately 11am today, in the midst of a two day downpour, at the corner of Grant and Wilmot, The Mutual of Omaha Bank had its sprinklers on.

Possible symbolic interpretations of the event:

  1. Cynical overuse of the planet's resources. They water because they can.
  2. While money is raining down on the bank's top earners, it's not enough to satisfy them. They have to sprinkle on more bonuses and stock options.
  3. The manicured grass (in the desert!) may be greener at the Mutual of Omaha Bank, but "greener" isn't good enough. It must be "greenest": the color of freshly minted money in their most beautiful dreams of greed and avarice.

The banks. You gotta love 'em. Really, you gotta, or else. Love 'em, bail 'em out, throw 'em truckloads of no interest loans. Watch them water their lawns in the pouring rain.
