Andrew Gardner, Secretary of the LD3 Democrats, says he learned to sew during the pandemic and started making masks because it seemed useful. "I found the fabric at my first trip to the fabric store, and it seemed like too good an idea to pass up."

It wasn’t long ago that face masks weren’t the sort of thing we’d all given much thought to. Today, they’re a health necessity. Now, you can order Democratic Party themed masks made by LD3 Secretary Andrew Gardner. At the May meeting, LD3 voted to devote a part of the proceeds to materials to make masks for people experiencing homelessness here in Tucson, as well as people that need masks at the Tohono O’odham and Navajo Nations.

This story first surfaced on Democrats of Greater Tucson.

2020 is strange, but the LD3 Democrats are here to help. Each face mask sold here is made two-layer quilter’s cotton. Because that isn’t as effective as an N95 mask, each mask also includes a pocket so that you can choose to use another filter material.

Each mask includes a 5-inch 22/2 insulated copper wire sewn into place to conform the mask to your face. Each mask also comes with two 12-inch black elastics that you can tie to make sure it fits just right.

All of the masks were made by LD3 Secretary Andrew Gardner, who is a volunteer and learned to sew at the beginning of the COVID-19 quarantine. There will be some variation from the mask-to mask.

Up to half of the proceeds from the masks will be used to purchase materials for masks to be donated to Arizonans who need them in communities hardest hit by the COVID-19 crisis.
