In a development that should remind everyone that anyone can get the Coronavirus and everyone should get vaccinated, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego announced that she has tested positive for COVID 19.
In a statement released by her office, Mayor Gallego said:
“Across the nation, people who have been vaccinated and boosted are still contracting a mild version of Covid-19. I have received both doses of the vaccine, and a booster, yet have tested positive for the virus. I feel fine and am experiencing no symptoms. I am following the CDC instructions. I remain in close electronic contact with my staff to ensure my work on behalf of the people of Phoenix continues without interruption.”
The Mayors office also reminded Phoenix residents to research:
“Information on city vaccination and testing programs is available at phoenix.gov. More information about the coronavirus, including a ‘symptom checker,’ is available through the CDC. Information, testing, and vaccines may also be available through your personal physician and local pharmacies.”
The major points to remember in the case of Mayor Gallego is:
- Anyone can get COVID 19, even if they have been vaccinated.
- Vaccines work. This is evidenced by the Mayor feeling well and, as yet, showing no symptoms of the virus.
Everyone should remember to practice all available mitigation measures like wearing a mask or washing your hands.
Everyone should get vaccinated. It does not guarantee you will not get COVID but it will improve your chances of not going to the hospital and becoming gravely ill.
Get well Mayor Kate Gallego.

Politicians seem to have an “occupation hazard” of getting this Corona virus since they have much contact with the public. Since it all began, CD 2 Congressman Raul Grijalva, his daughter District 5 Supervisor Adelita Grijalva, LD 2 House Reps. Andres Cano & Alma Hernandez, and recently LD 9 State Senator Victoria Steele have all reported that they got it, and have recovered. There have been more politicians in Phoenix, but those are the So. Az ones I know personally.
