Press release from the Terry Goddard for Governor campaign:
Goddard Statement on Comprehensive Border Security and Immigration Reform
Phoenix — Today Attorney General Goddard released this statement on the need for tough and fair Immigration Reform.
"Arizona is bearing the brunt of a decades-long failed immigration policy and an unsecure, porous border. The time has come for real solutions.
"As Attorney General, I am committed to practical solutions that keep Arizona safe, not impossible schemes to deport millions, or boycotts that further cripple our economy.
"Throughout my time as Attorney General, I have fought to improve border security and fight border crime, especially combating illegal money transfers. This is one important part of the solution.
"But Washington must do its part. The federal government needs to step up and pass comprehensive Immigration Reform. This policy must be tough, fair and practical.
"It must be tough on people who break the law, fair to taxpayers, and practical in order to work. Reform must:
1) Provide resources to improve border security and attack the criminal cartels that threaten our communities
2) Crack down on employers who knowingly hire workers who are here illegally
3) Require those who are here illegally to pay a fine, pay back taxes, and learn English before gaining legal work status
4) Require those who want to earn US citizenship to go to the back of the line behind those who did not enter illegally
"Arizona needs a practical solution to fix the broken immigration system. But people who break the law should not go unpunished–they should be given a chance to get right with the law."
For years, Attorney General Goddard has led the fight against border crime committed by drug- and human-smuggling cartels. Under his leadership, Arizona's anti-border crime programs have been the most aggressive of any state in the nation. His groundbreaking work in this area has included:
· Targeting wire transfers of cartel profits
· Seizure of tens of millions in cartel assets
· Major prosecutions of human- and drug-smuggling rings
· Training of over 400 Mexican prosecutors in an effort to help them be more successful in putting cartel members behind bars in Mexico
· Creation of the Southwest Border Alliance to better coordinate efforts of local, state and federal law enforcement along the Southwest border
· Establishing of the Border Crime Prosecution Team to investigate and prosecute criminal activity by the cartels

People can’t stop discussing the controversial Arizona Immigration Law. America has not been used to the reactionary politics applied by Jan Brewer. But maybe it’s high time to stop the constant abuse of American hospitality?
The American society is split into two parts…and evidences of both hold water. People expect Obama to react.
