The Tucson Weekly's The Skinny has this little gem about Rep. Carl Seel (TP-Phoenix):
BTW, state Rep. Carl Seel, one of the primary sponsors of the birther bill, told ArizonaGuardian.com last week that he wants a forensic examination of Obama's birth certificate. And he's wondering if Obama's father's nationality somehow disqualifies him from being a natural-born citizen. (emphasis added). Yes, it really is that crazy up there.
And if we may digress a bit: While Seel was flying to New York City to meet with Donald Trump and making up nonsense, Obama was overseeing a mission that put bullets into the head of Osama bin Laden. We think Obama was onto something last week when he released his birth certificate and said: "We're not going to solve our problems if we get distracted by sideshows and carnival barkers. … We do not have time for this kind of silliness. We've got better stuff to do. I've got better stuff to do."
Just about everyone has better stuff to do, except for maybe Carl Seel and his fellow travelers.
Let me mess with Crazy Carl's head and his band of birther conspiracy theorists' heads with another birth certificate "controversy" they may want to investigate. Keep in mind Crazy Carl's argument that "Obama's father's nationality somehow disqualifies him from being a natural-born citizen."
Has he heard of Mitt Romney's father, George Romney? George Romney was governor of Michigan and ran for president in 1968 when this same question about his eligibility to to run for president was raised. George Romney presidential campaign, 1968 – Wikipedia:
While George Romney was born in Mexico, he was still considered to be a viable and legal candidate to run for president. His Mormon grandfather and his three wives fled to Mexico in 1886, but none of them ever relinquished their U.S. citizenship.
While the Constitution does provide that a president must be a natural born citizen, the first Congress of the United States in 1790 passed legislation stating: "The children of citizens of the United States that may be born beyond the sea, or outside the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural-born citizens of the United States."
George Romney and his family fled from Mexico in 1912 prior to the Mexican revolution. However, the Naturalization Act of 1795 repealed the Act of 1790 and removed the language explicitly stating that the children of US citizens are natural-born citizens. As such, it is inconclusive whether George Romney was eligible for the office of President." (emphasis added).
Ruh-Roh, Crazy! George Romney may have been a citizen of Mexico who illegally immigrated to the United States, and that would make his boy Willard Mitt Romney one of those Mexican "anchor babies" that "King" Russell Pearce wants to deport back to Mexico.
Under Crazy Carl's conspiracy theory, Romney's father's nationality would disqualify him from being a natural-born citizen. Go crazy, birthers!
Note: Willard Mitt Romney is "a natural born citizen" of the United States and is eligible to run for president. He just never will be president.
