Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs, Democratic Senate Leader Priya Sundareshan, and Democratic House Leader Oscar De Los Santos all issued statements condemning the passage of the passage of the Big Ugly MAGA Project 2025 Angel of Death Economic Bill earlier today in the House of Representatives that takes money from the poor and middle class by cutting off access to Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, SNAP-Food Stamps, and good paying blue and green collar jobs while giving the rich like Jeff ‘I paid $50 million for my wedding to a trophy wife in Venice’ Bezos tax cuts they do not need.
In a press release, Governor Hobbs conveyed:
“This bill is a betrayal of working families, children, and seniors in Arizona who will lose their healthcare, their ability to put food on the table, and good-paying jobs, all to give tax cuts to people who are already billionaires while ballooning our national debt by $3.4 trillion.“
“Like many Arizonans, growing up, my family sometimes relied on food stamps just to make ends meet. I’m a social worker who has seen how critical Medicaid is for families in crisis. I know from firsthand experience how important these programs are for families in our state who are struggling to get by. Now, those protections are being stripped away for countless people.“
“This bill will devastate the services hardworking Arizonans rely on to survive, raise costs for families, and throw our state budget into chaos. This vote by Washington politicians to rip away healthcare and food assistance from vulnerable people is unconscionable, and every Arizonan should be outraged at this cruel and heartless action. I will keep fighting every day to protect the people of our state, but the devastating impacts of this legislation cannot be understated.”
In a social media post, she wrote:
“Congress just sold out hundreds of thousands of Arizonans who will lose their health care and the ability to put food on their family’s table. I will continue to fight for working Arizonans, but the devastating impact of this bill cannot be overstated.”
In a Arizona Democratic Senate press release, Senator Sundareshan stated:
“To every single Republican member of Arizona’s congressional delegation, may you never feel peace after stripping hundreds of thousands of Arizonans today of essential support. Parents will watch their children die without Medicaid coverage, families will go hungry without federal food assistance, and generations of working-class Americans will struggle to cover the cost of your tax cuts for the billionaire class.
This nation has been irrevocably weakened by the cowardice and cruelty of every Republican member of Congress who chose Donald Trump over the Americans they promised to serve. History will not look kindly on your actions today. Our country, our people, and our economy are being set backward simply to serve the interest of a select few. Passing this so-called “One Big, Beautiful Bill” is a corrupt, moral failure that should haunt you for decades because no one will be able to escape its disastrous and deadly impacts.”
In a House Democratic press release, Representative De Los Santos offered:
“We are outraged but not surprised that Republicans in Congress chose Trump and their billionaire donors over their own communities.
The Big Ugly Bill will cripple and close our rural hospitals, healthcare costs will skyrocket for everyone, and it endangers our developmentally disabled communities that rely on AHCCCS. We will see struggling Arizona families go without food benefits and the direct attack on clean energy will hurt our job market. All to give billionaires more tax breaks and increase our national debt.
This is devastating and wrong for Arizona and for America. Republicans at every level of government own this and should be ashamed.”
