Here's a news clip from KTVK-TV Phoenix on Horne's dismissal of Delores Huerta as "Cesar Chavez's former girlfriend."
My favorite moments:
- Horne's testimony in front of the House Education Committee at about a minute into the clip where he uses the "girlfriend" phrase. That's how Horne chooses to typify someone who has achieved iconic status in the Hispanic community and historic status in the nation. He's dismissive and derogatory — a combined racist/sexist taunt.
- When Horne is confronted by Ruben Gallego near the end. Asked to apologize for the statement, Horne goes on the offensive instead. Republican rule: say something outrageous, then ignore your original statement and turn the conversation to the issue you were going after in the first place. It's only effective if Democrats and the media play into it.
