Matthews Makes Mincemeat of Mitt

This may have been Chris Matthews best rant ever about my buddy Mitt:

If you have five minutes or so, click on the link and check it out. Besides the hilarity of it, Matthews' rant is worth watching for his delivery, vocabulary and facial expressions, all extraordinary. Political commentary just doesn't get any better.

I used to alternate between The Ed Show and Rachel, but for some reason switched to Chris Matthews six months or so ago, just about when the Presidential campaign got going. I don't what I've missed on the other two shows, but watching Matthews' coverage of Romney evolve over the past months has been hilarious. I don't think he ever liked Mitt, or even respected him, but whatever opinion he did have has gone from bad to really, really, really worse. I can't imagine worse treatment than I saw on tonight's show, but the reality is there are three months left until the election, and it's headed in only one direction. 

So what's going on here? Matthews has been at this a long time. What has Romney done to set him off that no other pol has? It's hard to guess. After all, there are many, many possibilities.

    Romney drew a comparison between Israel’s economic success and the Palestinians’. “As you come here and you see the GDP per capita, for instance, in Israel which is about $21,000 dollars, and compare that with the GDP per capita just across the areas managed by the Palestinian Authority, which is more like $10,000 per capita, you notice such a dramatically stark difference in economic vitality,” he said.
    This is the exact same argument used by the apartheid government in South Africa to justify the theft of the black population’s land, colonial governments throughout European history, the theft of native American land, and the continued colonization of Tibet by China. Occupiers justify taking other people’s land by virtue of their ability to create more wealth than their victims. This would be like me saying to someone with a cheaper house than mine “I’m taking it over because I can afford to put in a luxury kitchen and you can’t”. Romney has always gone on record as supporting hardline Israeli policy with no caveats, and is explicitly condoning the occupation of Palestinian territory with racist colonial ideology.

    Mitt Romney’s speech was designed for his audience back in the US, and he likely won’t care whether he is viewed as a racist or not. He is doing his bit to pander to the pro Israel lobby in America and line up Jewish votes for the election, and just as he is willing to use subtly racist language against African Americans to rally his white base, he is willing to denigrate Palestinians due to their unfortunate economic predicament to get Jewish support. It’s politics at its most grotesque, an increasing speciality of Mitt Romney who seems to know no limits when it comes to sacrificing personal dignity for his Presidential ambitions.

    Grotesque is the perfect adjective.It is getting more and more grotesque with each passing day.

  3. Well…it’s a trifecta! Mitt has managed to insult,anger or piss off people in every country that he was a guest in. Here’s a little something from Warsaw yesterday.

    As Romney made his way to his vehicle, reporters attempted to shout questions to the candidate. The former Massachusetts governor, who has answered only three questions from his traveling press corps during a week-long overseas trip, ignored the queries.

    CNN: “Governor Romney just a few questions sir, you haven’t taken but three questions on this trip from the press!

    Gorka: “Show some respect”

    NYT: “We haven’t had another chance to ask a question…”

    Gorka: “Kiss my ass. This is a Holy site for the Polish people. Show some respect.”

    Moments later, Gorka told Jonathan Martin, a reporter for Politico, to “shove it.” About a half-hour later, the aide called reporters to apologize.

    Gorka’s comments to the media came just hours before Romney’s foreign policy speech in Warsaw.

    This took place at the Tomb of the Unknown. A hallowed place. A place of honor. Awful. Just awful.
