Former Senate Minority (and Majority) Leader Alfredo Gutierrez and Sen. John Huppenthal, a cosponsor of SB 1070 (and candidate for Superintendent of Public Instruction), debated the new "papers please" anti-immigration law on Harball with Chris Matthews on Monday.
Somebody sent Huppenthal to MSNBC with a single talking point to keep parroting, and Chris Matthews had enough. Huppenthal had a bit of the deer in the headlights look as he tried to explain how this law will not result in racial profiling. Nobody in law and law enforcement, in good faith honesty, really believes this. Alfredo Gutierrez solidly explained the civil libertarian argument against this flawed law.

Oh, god, there are some idiots up there in Phoenix. This reminds me of when I met him and he kept parroting his idiotic quasi-engineering quality-control school survey like he could single-handedly solve all that ails education with it.
Huppenthal’s claim that the murder rate is down because of supposed action on illegal immigration is an outright lie. Look, LA has just seen a 40 year low in murder rate – this guy is making this stuff up.
