Huppenthal is hiding in Brewer’s Bunker

by David Safier

Bunker_chicken_sm Irony alert. John Huppenthal is running for the office of Superintendent of Public Education, but it looks like he's not interested in educating the voting public about the considerable differences of opinion separating him and Penny Kotterman. It seems he feels more comfortable hiding out in Brewer's Bunker firing out those sound bites and 30 second TV ads.

I've learned Huppenthal cancelled his appearance with Kotterman at the American Association of University Women/League of Women Voters debate.

It looks like he doesn't plan to attend the September 10 Phoenix Rotary 100 Club forum (that's today, so we should be able to get a confirmation on this one soon).

Also out, apparently, is the Arizona School Boards Association forum on September 11. (Stiffing the School Boards Association? Aren't they part of the local control Republicans are always so fired up about?)

And Huppenthal is supposed to be a no-show at the Arizona School Administrators forum on September 13. (Arizona School Administrators? If he happens to win, won't Hupp have regular dealings with school administrators? Is he letting them know he's planning to call the shots and their job is to salute and follow orders?)

Maybe Huppenthal will have a change of heart and take a few steps out of the bunker into the light of day. We'll find out over the next few days.

  1. I have been told that he is not answering calls, emails, and FB messages. Some of his own supporters and volunteers have said they have not heard from him since the primary win. He won’t even respond to them. I wonder if there is an illness or if there is some trouble on the horizon????
