This is plain common sense.
If people like Jeff Bezos can afford to have a $50 million wedding in Venice for his trophy bride and himself, then he and his plutocratic buddies can afford to pay more in taxes.
They definitely do not need a tax cut.
They do not need a federal private school voucher program where they take hard earned money from working and middle class taxpayers to pay for their children’s private school education.
That money that would go to Mr. Bezos and others in the rich and shameless would be better spent to make sure:
- People have access to quality and accessible health insurance.
- Children can get free breakfasts and lunch in school.
- Students can receive increased Pell Grants and affordable student loans.
- People can secure affordable housing and child care.
- Clean energy projects like solar and wind proceed and reduce pollution.
- Maintaining American soft power by not letting foreign aid food and medicines rot and expire in storage.
- That the programs created in the New Deal and Great Society are not destroyed.
Read and listen to Arizona’s leading Congressional Democrats who oppose this big, cruel, and ugly bill that will turn us back to the Gilded Age.
On the Senate Floor yesterday, June 29, Mark Kelly said this:
“The rich do not need an extension on tax cuts at the expense of low-income and middle class families. These are my constituents. These are folks who, unprompted, took time to write or call their Senator and every single one of them…say the same thing. ‘We’re barely holding on and we’re scared. This is going to put us over the edge.’ Now, I wish I could say that these stories were met with compassion by everybody here but instead one of my Republican colleagues (Mitch McConnell) apparently said, this is the quote ‘They’ll get over it.’ And another (Joni Ernst,) when asked whether cutting Medicaid would cost lives sad, ‘We’re all gonna die anyway.’ We can do better for the people we serve, Mr President. They deserve that from us.”
Also yesterday, Representative Yassamin Ansari wrote in the below post:
“Kids, seniors, & working families will suffer because of Republicans’ disgusting plan to take away healthcare, jobs, & food assistance from millions. All to pay for $200 billion in tax breaks for multimillionaires. They’re stealing from you to give even more to the top 1%”.
Senator Ruben Gallego echoed Ansari and Kelly in his social media video remarks, saying:
“What we’re voting on potentially is going to be horrible. So, what we know for a fact is going to knock out potentially 10 million people off Medicaid. Don’t need to do that, but we’re going to do that obviously, so we can get more tax cuts for the rich. We’re going to take off millions of people off food stamps because again, the tax cuts (for the rich)need their money. We know that they’re also trying to figure out even further cuts at a time when we need more and more help and people are actually going to get hurt the most… This bill is only going to cut millions of people off of Medicaid, get people off food stamps, increase the tax cuts for the very rich, and we’re going to end up taking out more debt which means for you, if you want to get a mortgage or if you want to use your credit cards, your interest rates are going to go up just so a couple big billionaires end up getting their tax cuts.”
These are the number of people that will lose health insurance by state if this bill passes.

Voters need finally realize that Donald Trump and his MAGA buddies are trying to sell the same trickle down economic snake oil that Ronald Reagan did in the 1980’s, George W. Bush did in 2001 and 2003, and Trump himself did in 2017.
In each case, the rich became richer. The poor became poorer, and the middle class were squeezed.
This bill is trickle down economics on steroids.
Voters need to support the candidates who share Ansari, Gallego’s and Kelly’s position to oppose this monstrosity and vote out the ones that think Mr. Bezos and people like him deserve a break.
Again, this is common sense.
