In for a penny, in for a pound (dollar)?

Arizona's Republican congressmen never learned the rule "never sweat the small stuff." Focusing on the trivial and insignificant has become a trademark of Arizona's Republican congressmen.

Remember when former Republican Congressman Jim Kolbe made it his life's mission to get rid of the penny and require rounding to the nearest five cents? Anti-penny, pro-rounding bill introduced in Congress – Jul. 18, 2006 (Kolbe introduced similar legislation in 2001). Lincoln still lives!

DollarNow freshman Republican Congressman David Schweikert (CD 5) wants to see Jim Kolbe's penny and raise him a dollar in the GOP's Gimmicks-R-Us sweat the small stuff competition. AZ/DC Blog – azdc – Schweikert wants to get rid of the dollar bill:

Freshman Rep. David Schweikert, R-Ariz., wants to retire the paper U.S. dollar bill and switch Americans to the $1 coin.

Schweikert, who sits on the influential House Financial Services Committee, on Tuesday introduced a bill that would get rid of the paper dollar in four years or less. The legislation is titled the Currency Optimization, Innovation and National Savings, or COINS, Act.

He said changing the dollar from paper to coin would save taxpayers lots and lots of dollars over the next three decades.

Leave it to the Tucson Weekly to ask the burning question on everyone's mind, Schweikert's War on the Dollar Bill: "But what will the strippers do?" Yes, where wil they put those dollar coins, and do I really want to know? Please, keep the change. I guess it's the effect of all that advertising on the Tucson Weekly web site from Spellbound Gentleman's Club.

I am confident that George Washington is going to survive the foolishness of David "Dollar Bill" Schweikert.
