Is Michelle Malkin Retracting Diane Douglas Endorsement?

I heard speculation that crazy right-wing Fox bloviator Michelle Malkin, the lone publicly recognizable name to endorse Superintendent of Public Instruction candidate Diane Douglas, is reconsidering. Supposedly, Malkin is furious that Douglas is ducking debate opportunities and otherwise is unwilling to make her views more widely known.

I’ve not been able to confirm any of this. Heck, I don’t even know the name of my source. I certainly can’t vouch for reliability here. But it makes a certain amount of sense. Malkin’s a bit of a lunatic, but she’s never lacked a spine. Douglas’ cowardice logically would annoy Malkin.

Malkin believes the Common Core standards are a sinister plot hatched by the Obama administration to indoctrinate our kids and turn them into socialists. When she endorsed Douglas, she expected her to be delivering that message to all who’d listen, not hiding from the local media.

So, whether or not Malkin actually is considering a retraction, she should be furious with Douglas over her general election campaign or, more accurately, non-campaign. It’s just inconceivable Malkin’s on board with the practice of ducking public appearances.

This puts a big fat exclamation point on how pathetic Diane Douglas’ candidacy is. The Douglas game plan has been to campaign vigorously to the tea-party base in the primary, then run for cover in the general, hoping the Republican registration edge will allow her to squeak through.

And that’s the most honest game plan Douglas could conceivably win on. If Douglas campaigned on what she truly stands for, she’d be persuading voters to pick Garcia, not her.

And Douglas’ behavior  tells us she’s well aware of that reality.

[Disclosure: I support David Garcia for Superintendent of Public Instruction]

  1. She has declined all including one sponsored by the Arizona School Board Association. She was once a member while on the Peoria board. If she is so proud of her stance then she should defend it other than in front of octanegerian GOP crowds.
