Arizona Sen. John McCain twice tried to pass comprehensive immigration reform in the past decade, and twice his bills were torpedoed by other Republicans in Congress. Mr. "I know how to fix immigration" didn't know how to bring along members of his own party to vote for his bills.

The GOP talking point among all Arizona Republicans today is that "the state was forced to enact SB 1070 because the federal government has failed to enact comprehensive immigration reform." Ahem, talk to Mr. "I know how to fix immigration." It was congressional Republicans who failed to enact comprehensive immigration reform.

And Republicans still have not got the message.
