Hey BfAZ readers, I thought I’d drop in after way, way too long. I’ve been focused entirely on federal tax policy work full-time, having wound down my law practice. That work continues, but it’s time to re-engage here in Arizona as well. I’m hoping to write more in the coming months and also get back involved in local causes.
While the past 18 months have been a fantastic experience for me personally, the result so far has been a giant disappointment. The Build Back Better package passed by the House last fall, although far from ideal, was truly a big step in the right direction. To see two Senators, Manchin and Sinema, first water it down, then kill it, was maddening. Some part of it may yet be salvaged. Ultimately, though, we’re going to need build a bigger Senate majority to enact the legislation so critically needed.
We’ll also need a better Senate majority, including the replacement of a certain Arizona senator, who revels in disappointing the voters who elected her while doing Mitch McConnell’s bidding.
That’s all for now. Hopefully, more to come.
