It's an honor, I guess. Our own Jan Brewer is Number 6 on the Onion's People Who Mattered in 2010 list. Those who beat her to the top five positions are:
- Barack Obama
- Snooki
- Julian Assange
- Mark Zuckerberg
- Mel Gibson
The funny thing about the Brewer piece is that it isn't funny. I don't know if the good folks at the Onion even tried. How can you top the the truth when it's this outrageous?
The head is:
Jan Brewer – Not Afraid To Do What The Federal Government Won't And Shouldn't
The best sentence is:
Like the growing tide of up and coming conservative politicians, Brewer understands that real change—the disturbing, almost surreal kind of change that drives a wedge between Americans, increases fear and xenophobia, and makes Arizona, and by extension the nation as a whole, seem impossibly backward—has to start at home.
It's like when Tina Fey did Sarah Palin on SNL. All she had to do was read Palin's lines straight. With Brewer, the Onion doesn't have to do much more than tell it like it is.
