In the spirit of civil disobedience, the “Jim Click Eight” defiantly pleaded NOT GUILTY in Tucson City Court yesterday, for blockading the Jim Click Dealership at 775 W Wetmore Rd on August 27. They held a 20-foot banner across the entrance driveway and turned customers away.
Jim Click is the Elon Musk of Tucson — selling cars to fund a river of money to MAGA candidates. Tesla protests caused a sales decline in 2025, with a 13% drop in Q1 deliveries compared to the previous year and significant sales slumps in the US and Europe due to public backlash against Elon Musk’s political misdeeds.
The Click 8 said that the time for protests is over. No Kings Day protests did bring out thousands of people — but the protests didn’t change a thing in Trump’s dictatorial takeover. Instead, the time has arrived for non-cooperation with anti-democratic forces.
They plan to retain a lawyer and consolidate their court dates into a single group trial. It appears that the punishments of 30 days in jail and a fine for misdemeanor trespassing are off the table.

The leaders of the Jim Click Eight, aka the Good Trouble Action Group, are Dr. Patrick Diehl and Dr. Jim Driscoll.
Diehl is a local progressive activist and professor, associated with several protest movements. He has been arrested during notable protests in the city, such as a 2021 sit-in at the University of Arizona Freedom Center, and a demonstration at Senator Jeff Flake’s Tucson office in 2017.

Driscoll is a Vietnam veteran, progressive activist, and organizer in Tucson, known for leading non-violent protest actions on issues of health care, veterans’ rights, and social justice. He is the spokesman for the Good Trouble Action Group and frequently represents protest movements against federal and local policies affecting veterans, workers, and vulnerable communities.
The other six civil activists include:

- Cara Bissel, who was at protests in May and June 2025, supporting VA benefits, and opposing ICE
- James Hannley is involved with the Democratic Party as a donor and active participant in local party activities.
- Mike Lippman is an instructor in the Department of Classics within the Humanities Seminars Program at the University of Arizona.
- Kay Shriner is a former Treasurer for the Arizona Legislative District 17 Democratic Committee.
- Hunter Smith, is a local protestor
- Reed Spurling is a recent graduate in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Arizona.
Jim Click is a Mega MAGA donor.
According to a December 2024 estimate, Jim Click’s net worth is approximately $400 million, with inflation-adjusted figures reaching $420 million. His business, Jim Click Automotive Team, reports annual revenues of around $290 million. There are 11 Jim Click–branded dealerships in Tucson and Green Valley.

Don’t buy a car from Jim Click
Driscoll said, “We’re here today to draw attention to the fact that Jim Click donated $70,000 to Juan Ciscomani, our congressional representative, who serves as Trump’s anchor in Tucson.”
”An authoritarian is taking over. It requires a large-scale, non-violent, non-cooperation. Non-violence is important.”

“It’s got to be large-scale, and it’s got to be more than a symbolic protest. It’s got to impose a cost on the people who are benefiting from the current system. And so Jim Click sells a lot of cars. We try to get in the way of that.”
Cara Bissell said, “ We’re a not-for-profit organization. It’s geared for peace through non-violence. Whatever we do, we want to be non-violent. We’re upset that what we have done through demonstrations has not worked.”
“We’re very conscious of Martin Luther King Jr.’s statement that the riot is the voice of the unheard and want to be heard, but still be non-violent. That includes being arrested and showing someone donating dollars to Trump.”
Click masquerades as a philanthropist.
Click puts up a smokescreen that he benefits Tucson by supporting Little League, local symphony groups, Boys & Girls Clubs and donating cars to university athletics. But the damage he causes supporting destructive MAGA candidates outweighs his self-named showy charity donations.
Reed Spurling, a recent aeronautical engineering graduate of the UofA, said, “ I am here because enough is enough. Donald Trump is attacking our schools, our hospitals, our economy, and our friends and neighbors. This is all enabled by Representative Juan Ciscomani’s vote for the Big, Ugly Bill.”
“Because Ciscomani failed to say no to Donald Trump’s bad ideas, Arizonans will be sicker, poorer, and less prepared for climate change, which is already hitting us hard here in Tucson. Ciscomani is willing to vote our future away and our freedoms away because he thinks that his future in Congress is secure by Jim Click’s donations to his campaign.”
“Jim Click was his biggest donor in 2024. In return, Ciscomani voted for trillions of dollars of tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy that disproportionately benefit those like Jim Click at the expense of making life harder for everyone else. Jim Click presents himself as an upstanding community member, but by funding Juan Ciscomani, Jim Click is enabling Donald Trump’s pointless fascism and his deliberate attempts to destroy our country.”
Jim Hannley said, “ I trespassed on Jim Click’s Kia car lot. It’s a class three misdemeanor. What I was doing out there was impeding Jim Click’s business. We are attempting to impress upon Jim Click how much disdain we have for his candidate, Juan Ciscomani.”
“Jim Click is one of the principal supporters of Juan Ciscomani, and our demand from him was that he stop supporting Juan Ciscomani. And it was a very effective way to get his attention by briefly disrupting his business.”
The group will assemble today (September 10) at the Jim Click Ford dealership at 6244 E 22nd St, Tucson, AZ 85711.
They will also appear at the Defense and Resistance Collective Volunteer Fair on Thursday, September 11, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at the Global Justice Center – 225 E 26th St.
