With the launching of the Harris for President Weekend of Action to mark 100 days to the November 5 elections, Campaign Manager Julie Chavez Rodriquez (the granddaughter of Cesar Chavez) and Civil Rights Activist Dolores Huerta highlighted two events in the Phoenix area, exciting and inspiring volunteers to work hard to bring victory to the Democratic ticket this year.
According to Chavez Rodriquez and reporting by outlets like Arizona’s ABC News 15, the Harris for President Campaign will launch 65 events this weekend, led by 1300 volunteers, in the Grand Canyon State.

Chavez Rodriquez and Huerta first attended a volunteer event at an Arizona Democratic Party headquarters on 52nd Avenue and Thomas earlier this afternoon.
Chavez Rodriquez first thanked President Joe Biden for “putting country first” and how his selfless act in withdrawing from the Presidential race showed “How precious our Democracy is.”
She also commented on the “energy and enthusiasm” that has welcomed the Harris for President Campaign in its first week from most Democratic officeholders, activists, interest groups, and donors.
When Huerta spoke, she immediately praised the many volunteers and activists who stared down MAGA bullies who tried to prevent people from voting in Arizona in 2020.
She said she was looking forward to the Presidential debate where the former prosecutor (Kamala Harris) goes up against the 34 times convicted felon (Donald Trump.)
Saying that the volunteers and activists there at the event today will make history and will one day be read about in the history books like her generation of civil rights leaders, Huerta said that they were fighting the 2024 version of Fascism (with its homophobia, sexism, racism, and Project 2025) and unlike the people who did not stand up to Hitler in the 1930s, the people gathered today must act to prevent Trump, whom she called “a creepy man” from assuming power again.
Calling the volunteers this generation’s “Freedom Fighters,” she challenged them to “fight for the soul and the legacy of the United States of America…We’re saving Democracy and we need the foot soldiers to make it happen right here in Arizona.”
In closing, she made all the volunteers and attendees get up and recite “WHO’S GOT THE POWER? WE HAVE THE POWER! WHAT KIND OF POWER? PEOPLE POWER?”
