Arizona Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Kari Lake is another gift that keeps on giving.
To Democratic Candidates across the Grand Canyon state.
So are others like Kelly Townsend, Wendy Rogers, Mark Finchem, Paul Gosar, and Andy Biggs.
Each one of them brings an extreme right wing, Trumpist-White Nationalist (including admiration for authoritarian leaders like Russia’s Putin: read E.J. Montini’s latest column on Biggs and Gosar’s recent votes on Russia,) let the people suffer, and science and reality denying approach to governing.
They are all political gift horses for the Democrats to use for the 2022 election cycle when they campaign against most Republican candidates.
Lake, who has been the subject of much head scratching and jaw dropping among the sane members of the political community, stepped into it again when she responded to a question at an event about RINOS going after Wendy Rogers for her recent statements at a White Nationalist gathering.
Lake, who realized she was being recorded said “I’m a big advocate for free speech…I’m a big advocate for free speech. I’m going to leave it at that because I’m not sure where that recording is going to go and that recording might just be a way to try to hurt me. I’m a big advocate for free speech and the First Amendment. I’m not a fan of cancel culture. It’s wrong and I’ll just leave it at that.”

Now on the surface, what Lake said, to the causal observer, would seem fairly reasonable.
Everyone has a First Amendment Right to say whatever they want as long as they do no harm to anyone.
What is perhaps most glaring about Lakes comments is what she did not say.
She could have defended Roger’s First Amendment rights while condemning all the offensive statements coming from the Legislative District Six Senator.
All the people in the world of decency and reality would have welcomed such remarks.
Unfortunately, it is no surprise that Lake, based on her past comments and actions this political season, chose not to make those statements.
Why?
Most political observers know Lake’s political views are mostly aligned with the political views of Rogers and the other members of Arizona’s worst and scariest.
They realize the Republican Gubernatorial Candidate would not condemn Rogers comments because she probably subscribes to most of them herself.
Arizona Secretary of State and Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Katie Hobbs, on hearing Lakes remarks defending Rogers, commented:
“Kari Lake’s defense of white supremacy is a clear example of her being completely out of touch with who we are as Arizonans. There’s no place for hateful rhetoric in our state government, and that’s exactly why there’s no place for Kari Lake in our state’s highest office.”
Hobbs is right.
There is no place for people like Kari Lake in any branch of government.
That goes for people like Rogers, Townsend, Finchem, Gosar, and Biggs.
Public Servants are supposed to promote inclusion and healing, not hatred and divisiveness.
Vote them and their allies out this November.
