Jim Kolbe, Sen. Goldwater’s page, age 15 |
Out of idle curiousity I found myself looking over Jimmy Kolbe’s campaign finance disclosures. He’s winding up a career of public service and disposing of a considerable war chest that never got used on a final campaign.
One of things that a pol does in these cases is refund contributions; another is to fund the campaigns of other pols he supports.
In the first case, there were plenty of prominent citizens from CD 8 getting refund checks from Uncle Jimmy. Dotty Finley, Dickie Dunbar, Donnie Diamond, the Click Claque, all the playaz are in da hizouse.
One of the most notable was Michael Hellon, who got back $200.50 from an earlier donation of $250.00 made before Kolbe announced he wasn’t running again. Chuck Huckelberry, our county manager, got a refund check for $450.00, too. I thought those manager types are supposed to be apolitical? Oh, well.
Now, after that devoted financial support from Mickie Hellon, you’d expect a touch of love from Uncle Jimmy to Mickie’s campaign. But, not so much. Instead, Kolbe gave annointed sucessor Stevie Huffman 1000 clams early last month. Mickie got bupkiss.
Nothing unusual there. Jimmy made his choice based on what he thought best for the party and the district… right?
So then what prompted him to give $1000 to crazy Joey Sweeney in the CD 7 race? Does he think that Joey would be better than Ronnie "The Shrimp" Drake for the party, or for the citizens of CD 7? It doesn’t seem to make sense for Jimmy to be funding the racist wacko in the district next door, even as he denounces the racist wacko (as if only one of them qualifies…) in the race for his seat. Which is it Jimmy? Are racist wackos bad for your party, in general, or are they just unfit to be your annointed sucessor?
