Ladies and gentlemen: Today’s Republican Party

by David Safier

Hat tip to Steve Benen on the Washington Monthly's Political Animal for making the connection. A line from Ben Affleck's film, "The Town," could have come from the mouths of the Republican Party leadership.

Affleck's line: “I need your help. I can’t tell you what it is. You can never ask me about it later — and we’re going to hurt some people.” His buddy pauses two beats to let it sink in, then replies, "Which car we gonna take?"

Substitute Mitch McConnell and Eric Cantor for the Affleck character, change "some people" to "the American people," and you have their strategy for unseating Obama. Make the American people hurt enough, and they're sure to blame the president.

At this moment, it looks like the strategy may be backfiring.
