It looks very much like Steven Stoltz was indeed a spoiler for Kelly. Without him on the ballot, most likely Kelly would have prevailed, if one makes the reasonable assumption that Sloltz's votes would have gone to Kelly.

While many people believe that Libertarians take more votes from Republicans than from Democrats I’ll offer my belief that Libertarians (for federal office) take more votes away from Democrats than they do Republicans.
Libertarians support an end to foreign military bases. If I had to choose between a candidate such as Grijalva who opposes open ended military occupations and the average generic Republican I would vote for Grijalva if no Libertarian was running.
Same appears to have been true in CD7? (don’t know enough about Meyer to know where those votes would have landed…)
